One Dead after Seattle Hit-and-Run on Martin Luther King Jr. Way
SEATTLE, WA (January 17, 2024) — One person died in a hit-and-run crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Way on Sunday, January 14.
According to the Seattle Police Department, officers responded to the 9200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way shortly before 9:30 p.m. to investigate a hit-and-run collision.
Witnesses said the suspect vehicle moved southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way near Rainier Station where it struck two cars at a red light. After that, the suspect attempted to flee. However, they backed into a building, where their vehicle caught fire and then burst into flames.
The 34-year-old driver died at the scene.
The 26-year-old passenger managed to get out of the window and escape the flames with minor injuries.
The drivers of the other two vehicles did not sustain any injuries.
Seattle police say they continue to investigate the crash as a hit-and-run. They also took the injured passenger into custody.
