Kaulin Froebe Hospitalized, Two Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on 5 Freeway near Powell Road Overpass

 
CASTLE ROCK, WA (July 5, 2023) — 22-year-old Kaulin W. Froebe of Klamath Falls, Oregon sustained injuries in a wrong-way crash that killed two others on Friday, June 16.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident happened on 5 Freeway, south of the Powell Road overpass at around 2:45 a.m.
 
A 22-year-old man drove a 2006 Ford Ranger south in the northbound lane. Then it crashed with a red Ford Escape driven by a 41-year-old man from Tigard, Oregon. Both drivers died and troopers have not yet released their identities.
 
WSP said a third vehicle, a 2014 silver Subaru Impreza driven by Froebe hit the Escape. Paramedics transported Froebe to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center as a precaution.
 
Meanwhile, a fourth vehicle, a 1996 black Honda Accord, driven by 20-year-old Jeremiah E. Heffley, of Salem, Oregon, hit the debris from the collision. He stopped near an off-ramp.
 
The driver of the Ford Ranger reportedly did not wear a seatbelt at the time of the accident. It’s not yet determined if the driver of the Ford Escape wore his.
 
The Escape, Ranger, and Impreza were totaled. The Honda sustained reportable damage.
