Rubi Lopez Identified in Fatal Phoenix Hit-and-Run

 
PHOENIX, AZ (May 30, 2023) – The Phoenix Police Department identified 23-year-old Rubi Lopez who died in a hit-and-run crash on 71st Avenue on May 28.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Thomas Road around 4:00 AM. Based on a report, Lopez was a passenger in a vehicle that was crossing 71st Avenue on a green light at the time of the crash.
 
At that time, 18-year-old Saul Figueroa was heading northbound on the road. Due to unknown reasons, he ran the red light and hit Lopez’s vehicle. Subsequently, he left the scene after the crash.
 
Officers found Lopez lying in the roadway. As a result, emergency crews pronounced her dead at the scene.
 
The driver in Lopez’s vehicle suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
 
Police said it Figueroa was impaired at the time of the crash and they arrested him at his home.
