4 Dead, Multiple Injured After Bus Crash in Rock Island
ROCK ISLAND, WA (February 17, 2025) — Four people died in a head-on bus accident on Highway 28 on Sunday, January 26.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred on Highway 28 near Rock Island Dam Road around 1:30 p.m.
WSP said a Toyota Camry traveling westbound attempted to pass traffic. Then it veered into the eastbound lane. After that, it collided with an oncoming Northwestern Stagelines charter bus, which then ended up in a ditch.
The 17-year-old driver and 17-year-old passenger of the Camry, both from East Wenatchee, died at the scene. The 66-year-old bus driver from Spokane and one bus passenger also died.
Five other bus passengers sustained injuries. Paramedics brought them to the hospital. Another two passengers, including a critically injured individual, also received treatment.
A third vehicle, a Chevrolet Traverse SUV carrying a Cashmere woman and two children, sustained minor damage but no injuries.
The bus was on a scheduled route from Seattle to Spokane at the time of the collision. Authorities closed Highway 28 for 10 hours, with detours set up on Highway 97 and Highway 2.
The investigation of the incident is still underway.
