Benjamin Meece Arrested, Kenneth Salas Hurt, Driver Killed in Car Accident on University Boulevard

 
ODESSA, TX (June 20, 2024) — Authorities arrested 27-year-old Benjamin Meece after a fatal car accident on Friday, June 7.
 
According to the Odessa Police Department, the crash took place on University Boulevard near Oakwood Drive at around 9:35 a.m.
 
The investigation determined that a Dodge Challenge that Meece test-drove moved eastbound on University Boulevard. At the same time, a Honda Accord traveled westbound on University Boulevard and tried to turn south onto Oakwood. That is when the Dodge Challenger hit the Honda.
 
Emergency responders pronounced the driver of the Honda Accord dead at the scene. The identity of the driver was not immediately available pending notification of loved ones.
 
Meece fled the scene on foot yet was later apprehended by the authorities. He and the front passenger of the Dodge Challenger, identified as 34-year-old Kenneth Salas, sustained minor injuries. Paramedics transported them both to Medical Center Hospital.
 
Authorities later arrested Meece and then charged him with Fail to Stop and Render Aid. He is currently in custody at MCH. Upon release, officers will transport him to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
 
Officials continue to investigate the crash.
