ESTES PARK, CO (September 24, 2024) — Officers arrested 23-year-old Wayde Thyfault, of Hudson, after a speeding crash on Sunday, September 8.
 
According to rangers, Thyfault drove a vehicle at a high rate of speed through the Grand Lake entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park late Sunday afternoon.
 
Officers then tried to pull Thyfault over. However, they did not pursue him because of his high speed and reckless driving.
 
Estes Park Police Department attempted to stop him at the Deer Ridge Junction where Highway 34 and Highway 36 meet. They then placed “stop sticks” near the Beaver Meadows entrance. However, he continued to speed south past the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. After that, he crashed into another vehicle with three occupants.
 
Paramedics brought three people inside the second vehicle to the hospital. One of them sustained critical injuries, reports said.
 
After the collision, Thyfault fled the scene and headed toward High Drive near Estes Park. Then officers arrested him on Monday in the same area. Records show he is also suspected in a burglary case in Grand County.
