AUSTIN, TX (August 22, 2024) — Two people died after a fiery accident on the 35 Freeway on Sunday, August 11.
 
According to the Austin Police Department, the crash occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on the 35 Freeway near Slaughter Lane.
 
Austin Police said a vehicle drove into a construction site and slammed into a pillar. After that, the vehicle caught fire.
 
ATCEMS and Austin Fire Department officers arrived at the scene. Despite their efforts, both adult occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
 
The identities of the deceased were not yet available, pending notification of loved ones.
 
The Texas Department of Transportation officers closed the northbound lanes on the 35 Freeway due to the crash. They advised drivers to use alternate routes if possible.
