One Killed, Four Others Injured in Four-Car Crash on Highway 101 [Olympia, WA]

Motorcyclist Dies in Olympia Car Accident on Highway 101 near Mud Bay Road

 
OLYMPIA, WA (July 21, 2023) — A motorcyclist died and four other people suffered injuries in a major car crash on Highway 101 on Wednesday, July 12.
 
According to a press memo from Washington State Patrol, the collision happened on Highway 101 near Mud Bay Road just before 1:00 p.m.
 
WSP said a 41-year-old Rochester man driving a Chevy pickup truck reportedly hit a motorcyclist slowing for traffic in lane one of the highway. After that, the motorcycle collided with a Nissan hatchback. Then the Nissan crashed with a Honda sports utility vehicle.
 
The 46-year-old Olympia man riding the motorcycle died at the scene. Reports said he wore a helmet.
 
WSP said paramedics transported four people from the hatchback to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia with injuries.
 
The occupants of the hatchback include a 23-year-old Yelm man, a 40-year-old Yelm man, a 44-year-old McKenna man, and a 55-year-old man from Newport News, Virginia. They all reportedly wore seat belts when the incident happened.
 
The 45-year-old Puyallup man driving the Honda and the Rochester man driving the Chevy were not hurt. Both of them also wore their seat belts.
 
Authorities listed the cause of the crash as “following too close”. Troopers don’t believe impairment contributed as a factor in the incident.
