Noemi Perez Died after Toppenish Hit-and-Run on Branch Road

 
TOPPENISH, WA (September 24, 2024) — 32-year-old Noemi Salazar Perez, of Sunnyside, died in a hit-and-run on Monday, September 16.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred on Branch Road near Highway 97 at about 8:04 p.m.
 
The WSP said a BMW driven by Perez moved west on Branch Road toward Highway 97. Then Perez failed to yield the right-of-way. After that, a Chrysler 200 traveling northbound on Highway 97 toward Branch Road struck the BMW.
 
Officers responded to the area and then pronounced Perez dead at the scene. Officers have notified her next-of-kin.
 
Paramedics transported a passenger in the BMW to the hospital in Yakima. Officials only identified him as a 39-year-old Sunnyside man. They also brought a 26-year-old male passenger in the Chrysler to the hospital.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chrysler, a 28-year-old man from Chiapas, Mexico, ran from the scene after the collision. Officers brought him into custody a short time later.
 
Authorities continue to investigate to determine the official cause of the crash.
