Jose Chacon Identified in Fatal Newberry Springs Crash on 15 Freeway

 
NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA (February 21, 2023) – Officers identified 78-year-old Jose Chacon of Santa Ana as the victim who died in a rollover crash on 15 Freeway on January 23.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Harvard Road around 2:47 PM.
 
Based on a report, Chacon was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck southbound on the freeway at the time of the crash. Due to unknown reasons, he allowed the truck to veer to the right. Then, the vehicle crossed over the shoulder and traveled into the open desert, where it rolled over.
 
As a result, Chacon suffered severe injuries in the crash. The San Bernardino County Fire Department responded and rendered aid to him and his 73-year-old female passenger. Unfortunately, Chacon succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision.
 
Emergency crews transported his female passenger to Loma Linda University Medical Center using Mercy Air #66.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
