Levi Lott and John Berkley Dead, William Coker Injured in Payne Springs Motorcycle Accident

 
PAYNE SPRINGS, TX (September 2, 2024) — 52-year-old John Berkley, of Athens, and 32-year-old Levi Lott, of Tyler, died in a crash on Sunday, August 18.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident involved three motorcyclists and a pickup truck. It occurred on Highway 198 near Payne Springs, on a bridge over Cedar Creek Lake around 9:00 p.m.
 
DPS said 45-year-old William Coker, of Eustace, drove north in a pickup truck on Highway 198. At the same time, three motorcycles moved south on the same highway. Then Coker’s truck drove on the wrong side of the roadway. Then it hit the motorcycle that Berkley drove.
 
After that, the debris hit another motorcyclist identified as 25-year-old Cody Jordan, of Chandler. Then Coker’s truck hit Lott’s motorcycle. The impact threw Lott over the bridge into the water.
 
Responding officers later found Lott dead. They also pronounced Berkley dead at the scene.
 
Jordan was not brought to a hospital.
 
Paramedics transported Coker and his passenger to the hospital for treatment.
 
DPS said that officials continue to investigate the accident.
