Jesus Camacho-Augustine Killed after Mesa Car Accident on Highway 17

 
MESA, WA (August 24, 2023) — One person identified as Jesus Camacho-Augustine died in a chain-reaction crash on Monday, August 7.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, five vehicles traveling southbound on Highway 17 were involved in the incident.
 
Reports said the first vehicle crashed into a second vehicle. This caused the second vehicle to crash into the third vehicle. The collisions lead to a chain-reaction crash of the five vehicles.
 
A total of nine people were part of the incident.
 
Paramedics pronounced a passenger in vehicle two identified as Jesus Camacho-Augustine dead at the scene. Officers said he did not wear a seatbelt.
 
In addition, they transported six individuals to the hospital for injuries.
 
Officers temporarily closed Highway 17 in both directions. They urged motorists to use the detour through Highway 260 for northbound traffic. All lanes reopened at about 5:34 p.m.
 
According to WSP, the investigation of the crash is still underway.
