SANTA CRUZ, CA (January 31, 2023) – The Santa Cruz County Coroner’s Office identified 45-year-old Anthony Angel Chavez as the victim who died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 1 on January 23.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at River Street around 6:15 AM.
 
Based on a report, the Santa Cruz resident was crossing the highway in a crosswalk at the time of the crash. The Santa Cruz Police confirmed that his action was against a red light.
 
Subsequently, a vehicle struck him.
 
As a result, Chavez died after sustaining severe injuries.
 
Officers did not make any arrests in relation to the crash. As of now, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
